Problem

The goal was a complete booking platform without frameworks, with everything from the HTTP server to authentication written from scratch.

Solution

A custom Java SE HTTP server, a documented REST API, and separate guest and admin roles.

What I did

  • Wrote my own server on the JDK's HttpServer with no frameworks, and a 19-endpoint REST API for rooms, reservations, auth and admin.
  • Built token-based auth with guest and admin roles. Reservations stay pending until an admin approves them.
  • Calculated prices with the Strategy pattern (weekend check-ins cost more) and sent notifications on status changes with the Observer pattern.
  • Saved data to a file with atomic writes: it goes to a temporary file first and then replaces the real one, so a half-finished write never corrupts it.
  • Designed it with OOP (abstract classes, interfaces, a Facade, DTOs) and deployed it on Railway with Docker.

How it's built

GuestSearch, booking
AdminApprovals, rooms
Java HTTP server19 endpoints, token auth
StrategyPricing
ObserverNotifications
FileAtomic writes

The guest picks dates, the Strategy works out the price and the booking is saved as pending.

Deployed on Railway with Docker.
